Further Afield
The Cotswolds are officially designated as an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty", and are famous for the ancient soft ‘honey’ coloured limestone villages that merge so well into the countryside. The Cotswolds are one of the most treasured areas in England, with many visitors marvelling at the villages, such as Bibury, which have not changed for 300 or so years.
A view of Oxford
The Cotswolds were once entirely dependent on sheep-farming, with many of the fine churches and beautiful manor houses owing their existence to the generosity of wealthy medieval yeoman farmers and wool merchants, such as Sir Richard Wenman of Caswell.
With Burford, Oxford, Stow-on-the-Wold and Woodstock being less than half an hour away, there are always places of interest to visit within easy reach. Bath, Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick with fine shops, tea rooms, theatres and restaurants are all within about an hour away. London is easily accessible by road or rail, with a very good local train service from Charlbury.
